EAST FISHKILL – The State Police station commander of Troop K in Cortlandt was killed Tuesday morning in a motorcycle accident on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of East Fishkill.

State Police said Sgt. Nigel Barnett, 49, of Poughkeepsie was traveling southbound at about 6:30 a.m. when he lost control, was ejected and struck a guardrail on the shoulder.

Despite life-saving efforts, Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a 19-year veteran of the State Police.

The collision remains under investigation.
