KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The new board of directors held a meeting on Tuesday, September 16, to discuss progress at the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center.

Interim Director Brian Bivens highlighted improvements in health care and mental health care at the facility, though staffing issues remain a concern.

"I think the biggest takeaway is talking about the staffing issues that we currently have," said Bivens. "So hopefully we'll be able to help resolve that sooner than later."

The meeting focused on the advancements made in the care provided to juveniles at the detention center, with particular emphasis on health and mental health services.
