FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Tow truck drivers across the Commonwealth and around the nation are standing behind a bill to add rear-facing blue lights to tow trucks after losing several of their own.

It’s been almost a year since tow truck driver Troy Caldwell was struck and killed while working on the side of I-64 in Bath County.

The bill didn’t advance during last year’s session, but on Tuesday, it was heard at a committee meeting.

Bubba Johnson owns and operates his own towing business, Bubba’s Towing & Recovery.

He is the driving force behind Bill Request 33.

For the past year, he’s been pushing for blue lights to be placed on the back of tow trucks when they are pulled over,rear-facing helping with a wreck or tow.
