Olathe, KAN. -- Olathe City Council approved rezoning and preliminary site plans Tuesday for a Lineage Logistics cold storage facility by a 5-2 margin. The vote comes just a month after its planning commission recommended council reject the project, voting against it 5-2.
The developer's representative wouldn't confirm it when asked directly, but said council was "making a good inference" when it said the project was highly sought after and would likely go forward with or without their approval.
Council and Olathe Mayor John Bacon expressed concern that the land could be annexed by Spring Hill instead and not only would Olathe potentially lose out on tax dollars but also control and the ability to hold Lineage Logistics to its safety standards which Olathe leaders say are more stringent.
