COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina football assistant coach has provided his first statement since being involved in a deadly crash with a suspected DUI driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said USC defensive line coach Travian Robertson was hit head-on in an Aug. 22 wreck on Dutch Fork Road in Richland County.

A SCHP report later obtained by WIS stated the other driver, Kelly Johnson, was believed to be under the influence at the time of the crash. Johnson died as a result of the collision.

Robertson, meanwhile, was taken to a hospital for treatment. His attorneys said Wednesday that he required five surgeries for internal and external injuries.
