EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- The Vanderburgh County Commissioners renewed a burn ban on Thursday.
The commission president had already issued an emergency ban and members today decided to extend it through October 7. Officials say the county has seen below-average rainfall creating dry and dangerous conditions for burning.
"Currently we are under a moderate drought in Vanderburgh County,” commission president Justin Elpers said. “So as the forecast shows, it doesn't look much better. So we'll likely have to come back Tuesday to renew the burn ban again."
Anyone who violates the ban is subject to a $500 fine if convicted.
