A request to rezone property on Stamey Farm Road was approved by the Statesville City Council on Monday. The rezoning will allow for a data center to be built on the property.

The council held a public hearing on the matter before voting unanimously to approve the rezoning of the 350 acres of farmland.

Residents who live in the area of the county, where the city has rezoned and will likely vote in favor of annexation of at an October 6 meeting, said they felt the city wasn't hearing their concerns. Others offered support, ranging from complete agreement to saying it may be the best option for land likely to be developed in the future.
