DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) - Iowa House Republican Representative Mike Sexton announced on Friday he is resigning from his position effective immediately.

Sexton says he has accepted a position appointed by President Donald Trump.

Sexton has represented District 7 since 2014. Serving as the Chair of the House Agricultures Committee since 2022.

Reflecting on his time in Des Moines, Sexton said "it truly has been an honor to serve for House District 7 and the people of Iowa as a State Representative."

Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley also highlighting all the contributions Sexton has made to the agriculture community.
