DULUTH — Former Minnesota Duluth captain Dominic James finally has himself an NHL contract, sharing on his Instagram account Friday evening that he’s signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning announced the two-year entry-level deal on Saturday.

James, who wrapped up a four-year career with the Bulldogs in March, has been an unrestricted free agent since August after reportedly turning down a contract from the Chicago Blackhawks in the spring.

A native of Plymouth, Michigan, James was drafted by the Blackhawks in the sixth round, No. 173 overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft after he posted six goals and 12 assists as a freshman at UMD. A strong first semester also landed James on the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2022 World Junior Championship.
