Iwas appalled to read the article by Courtney Tanner in a recent issue of The Salt Lake Tribune about the Utah State University researcher irradiating guinea pigs and hamsters in order to see how much radiation would kill them. This so-called researcher also withheld pain medication which the article states is usual protocol.
Rather than a lab experiment, this sounds like an experiment to teach budding serial killers how to begin their fixation with torture. It would appear that in this situation and in many others recounted in the article the instructors of these labs forgot to teach the students the part about minimizing pain and distress when testing on animals. Why not just call the “project” what it is: “How to torture helpless creatures.”
