EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Vanderburgh County Sheriff says his department will be teaming up with the County’s Fire Department to streamline DUI enforcement.

Under a newly executed Memorandum of Understanding, the sheriff says certified paramedics with the Fire Department will be able to draw blood in certain impaired driving investigations.

Officials hope this will reduce inconvenience for motorists.

The agreement allows deputies to request Fire Department assistance when a suspected impaired driver is not being transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Paramedics will also be able to collect blood while already providing care, as long as it does not interfere with treatment.
