HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new partnership with the Vanderburgh County Fire Department that will streamline DUI enforcement on September 20.

According to the sheriff's office, the fire department will be authorized to perform evidentiary blood draws in certain impaired driving investigations. The partnership is effective immediately.

The agreement deputies to request fire department assistance when a suspected impaired driver is not being transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail, or when fire paramedics are already providing medical care at the scene and the collection of a blood sample will not interfere with treatment.

The Sheriff's Office says that the new procedure does not change the legal standards for DUI investigations. Pro
