FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. — Several first responders were recognized Friday for successfully delivering a baby inside a southern Indiana home on Aug. 28.
Highlander Fire presented its first-ever “Stork Award” to members of the fire department and the sheriff’s office for their quick response.
The child’s mother, Kayla Oldham, said she woke up around 5 a.m. and knew baby Zella was coming.
“Within a couple minutes, I realized not only was I in full labor, but like the baby was going to be coming anytime,” she said.
Nate Hammitt, Zella's father, was shocked at how fast first responders arrived to help.
“I think we felt a lot of relief, a sense of we’re in good hands," he recalled.
