MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said the forthcoming “Memphis Safe Task Force” will be led by the U.S. Marshals Service with support from the FBI, DEA, ATF and the National Guard, and that Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis will be involved in coordinating the deployment.

“What my plan is, is that this will be a force multiplier to the Memphis Police Department,” Lee said. “Chief Davis has been involved in the conversation for months around the FBI operation in Shelby County, and now will be involved in the deployment of these federal resources that are coming in as well.”

Lee said the strategy is to shift investigative and major operational work to federal agents, allowing MPD officers to spend more time on neighborhood patrols. “Whenever we can put law-enforcement-train
