Shutouts have been a rarity during Brent Vigen’s tenure as Montana State’s head coach.
Before the 17-0 win over Mercyhurst Saturday, the Bobcats held an opponent scoreless just one other time since 2021 (40-0 win at Weber State on Sept. 23, 2023). MSU has held opponents to seven or fewer points 11 other times during that span.
“So to get that, on one hand, is impressive,” Vigen said Saturday. “Our inability to get (Mercyhurst) off the field was not very impressive today.”
There were only 12 possessions in the game Saturday (six each for MSU and Mercyhurst). The Lakers finished with 263 total yards (205 passing, 58 rushing). Mercyhurst went 4 for 14 on third downs and 4 for 7 on fourth downs.
Vigen gave the Lakers “a lot of credit” for being much improved since the last time they faced
