BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech got in the win column Saturday afternoon with a 38-6 win over Wofford at Lane Stadium.
It marked a good start to Philip Montgomery’s tenure as interim coach after Brent Pry was fired one week ago, and it allowed the Hokies (1-3) to notch only their second victory in nine games dating back to last season.
Tech never trailed against Wofford (0-4), an FCS program from the Southern Conference, and built momentum heading into next week’s ACC opener at North Carolina State.
Missing pieces
Virginia Tech opened the game with three defensive starters and two key reserves not dressed. A fourth starter, defensive end James Djonkam, wasn’t with the team on the sideline.
