A 33-year-old man died Saturday after he was struck by a train near 11 th Avenue and Buchanan Street in Phoenix, police said.

Dominique Mayes was pronounced dead at the scene about 2 a.m. Sept. 20.

Officers learned that a BNSF train moved a short distance, after which the man was located, according to a release. His injuries indicated he had been struck by the train.

Detectives, who took over the investigation, said it appears Mayes was near the train when it “began its short movement."

The investigation is continuing.
