SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Local runners participated in the inaugural 'Springfield's Ballers on the Move 5K' at Van Horn Park Saturday morning to raise funds for children's athletics.

Organized by the nonprofit Springfield Ballers, the event aimed to make children's sports more affordable by lowering registration fees.

"We really like to keep the price down for families, and the money that we raise at stuff like this, that's where it goes," said Timothy Allen, a member of the Board of Directors for Springfield Ballers.

"Anything to support children should be a number one priority for everyone, especially in the city of Springfield," said runner Mahera Chiarizio.
