A writer retraced tragic Jay Slater's final steps on the morning he disappeared - and claims the British teenager made one fatal mistake.

The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was on holiday with friends in Tenerife, in the Spanish Canary Islands, when he vanished after a night out in July last year.

On his first holiday without his parents, Jay had been partying before he headed to an Airbnb in the village of Masca with two men he had met on the holiday.

He later phoned his friend Lucy Law to say he was lost before telling his other pal Bradley Geoghegan he had missed a bus and was trekking home, which amounted to a 14 km trek back to his accommodation in the town of Los Cristianos.
