FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A 10-year-old boy was hit and killed by a truck while allegedly playing near a highway in Downtown Fresno Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol announced.
CHP reports just after 4 p.m., they responded to Highway 99 near Ventura Street for a report of a person who was hit by a vehicle.
Officers say a truck was headed southbound on Highway 99, taking the Ventura Street exit, when, allegedly, about 10 kids were playing around the fast lane of the off-ramp. Despite the driver's efforts to avoid them, one child was struck.
Investigators report CPR was administered to the child on scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The boy has not been officially identified.
