BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Sunday marks one year since the deadly Five Points South mass shooting that killed four people and injured 17 others .
21 families’ lives changed forever that day — and for one whole year now, they’ve been forced to live with the pain.
One of those families invited our WBRC team to attend a celebration of life for their young daughter, Anitra Holloman .
For Anitra’s mom, Candace Kemp , it’s hard to accept what is now her reality: that her daughter is gone.
Candace told WBRC that she has not been able to come back down to the area. It would just be too painful.
“You never know how much you need somebody until they’re no longer around,” Kemp said.
