STREETSBORO, Ohio — The Streetsboro City School District canceled classes at all of its schools Monday amid a police search for a male who "appeared to be carrying a long gun" not far from the campus.

At 6:50 a.m., the district put out the following post on its Facebook page.

Out of an abundance of caution, schools will be closed today due to police activity in the area. The Streetsboro Police Department will provide updates when available.

Just after 8 a.m., Streetsboro Police Chief Patricia Wain released a statement explaining that a city employee "saw a male walking on SR 303 near Kirby Lane" at approximately 6 a.m. and "appeared to be carrying a long gun." The man was apparently seen wearing all dark clothing.
