A woman was stabbed to death at a Meijer gas station on Sunday, Sept. 22, according to the Shelby Township Police Department.

"This was not a random attack," the department said in a statement. The victim and suspect both live in Utica and knew each other, police said.

The suspect fled the scene and traveled north after stabbing the woman at the gas station on Hall Road at around 5 p.m. but was taken into custody about 10 minutes later by Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, police said. He hasn't yet been charged.

A Macomb County deputy responding to the gas station stabbing also appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and drove into a shallow pond nearby but appears to be OK, Shelby Township police confirmed.
