A woman was fatally stabbed Sunday evening by a man she knew at a Meijer Express Gas Station in Shelby Township, police said.

According to police, the incident took place about 5 p.m. at the gas station located outside the Meijer department store at 15031 Hall Road, west of Hayes Road.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim who had sustained stab wounds,” Shelby Township police said in a news release. “The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.”

The male suspect fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody by deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Both the victim and the suspect are residents of Utica and knew each other.
