A man has been charged after a Mercedes Benz crashed into the back of a police car overnight, injuring an officer and a police dog.
A white Mercedes Benz is alleged to have collided with the rear of a police vehicle on the Tullamarine Freeway, near Melbourne at about 10.45pm on Monday night.
Rocco, a German Shepherd police dog, was ejected from the police vehicle in the collision.
The dog was taken to the vet where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The police officer in the car at the time was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to hospital as a precaution.
A 21-year-old Meadow Heights woman, who was the passenger of the Mercedes, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
