Police have closed several roads in a busy city centre following a protest by pro-Palestine activists at a drone factory. The incident occurred at UAV Tactical Systems in Braunstone Town, with Leicestershire Police receiving reports just before 5.15am on Tuesday, September 23.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a van had allegedly been driven into bollards outside the factory. Protesters had locked themselves onto the top of the van and onto a nearby fence. A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of being equipped for locking on, a term used for individuals who secure themselves to structures.

The arrested individual remains in police custody as officers continue to manage the situation. In response to the protest, all routes near the business park have been closed to the public, including Meridian East to Centurion Way. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes due to significant disruptions around Meridian East and Blue Bell Wood.

Local residents reported seeing smoke coming from the site shortly after 7am, although the source of the smoke has not yet been identified. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has been seen at the scene.

The protest was claimed by People Against Genocide, a pro-Palestine direct action group. They stated that UAV Tactical Systems' majority shareholder, Elbit Systems, is "Israel's biggest weapons maker." However, a spokesperson for UAV Tactical Systems previously stated that the company does not supply the Israeli military or Ministry of Defence, labelling such claims as "completely false."

Leicestershire Police issued a statement confirming the details of the incident. They emphasised their support for peaceful protests but stated they would take immediate action against any criminal activity or damage to property. Officers remain at the scene as the situation develops.
