The family of eight-year-old Rhys Cameron has paid tribute to his "beautiful personality" following his tragic death in Billingham, Teesside. Rhys died between September 13 and 15, and his mother, Louise Cameron, 40, has been charged with his murder. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Teesside Crown Court on November 6.
In a heartfelt statement released through Cleveland Police, Rhys' family expressed their devastation. They described him as a "lovely little son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend to many who loved and knew him in the community." They added, "He had a cheery, funny and beautiful personality and carried a huge smile wherever he went that will forever be remembered."
The family highlighted Rhys' love for music, playing with friends, and even his toothbrushes, stating, "His love brought joy to us all. To say we as a family are devastated is an understatement; Rhys will be missed more than we can ever put into words."
Cleveland Police confirmed that they received a call from the North East Ambulance Service regarding the child's death on September 15 at 10am. The police are treating the death as unexplained and have launched an investigation. They stated, "Our thoughts are with the family of the child during this very difficult time."
Specialist officers are currently providing support to Rhys' family as they navigate this challenging period.
