A Virginia man who shot his girlfriend and then lied numerous times about what happened to her once he brought her to a hospital will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future.

Huy "Max" Nguyen, 47, has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Alison "Kate" Laporta, as well as the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, local outlets reported outside a Fairfax County courthouse, including CBS affiliate WUSA .

Nguyen and Laporta had been dating for about a year when, on the night of April 17, 2024, Laporta was shot in her upper body. Nguyen took the mother of two to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, where Fairfax County Police Department officers made contact with him.
