A 38-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly attempting to rob a bank branch while threatening workers with a knife.

Security camera footage shows the woman inside a dollar shop in Kingsgrove — in Sydney’s south — where a worker says she stole two knives before walking to the nearby bank.

Police allege she then used one of the knives to demand cash from staff at the Commonwealth Bank branch.

The incident has shocked locals in the area, with one resident expressing concern about safety at their local bank.

“I’m shocked as a local. This is my local bank. You never know if someone can break in or, you know, can get mugged and, yeah, that’s scary,” a local resident said.

No customers or bank workers were injured during the alleged robbery attempt.
