A British tourist has drowned at a popular Spanish seaside resort.

The man, 58, was spotted floating in the sea by his wife at around 2.45pm at Cap Sant Pere beach in Cambrils on Spain’s east coast.

He had suffered from a cardiac arrest while out at sea.

The holidaymaker was given CPR at the scene but was declared dead soon after ambulance crews arrived at 3.04pm

Paramedics also treated the wife for a panic attack, the newspaper Diari de Tarragona reported.

A yellow flag was up at the time, which signals to beachgoers that they should exercise caution when going into the sea. The beach has no lifeguard service outside of the peak holiday season, with the nearest lifeguards at neighbouring Vilafortuny Beach.
