Police in Kasungu have arrested 37-year-old Patrick Mwale on suspicion of murdering his brother-in-law, Laston Phiri.

According to the district’s deputy police spokesperson, Miracle Hauli, the incident occurred on September 23rd in Nkhoma Village, located in the Mphomwa Chiefdom.

Hauli explained that the deceased’s wife sells alcohol, and on the day of the incident, the suspect, the deceased, and some friends were drinking together. While chatting, they got started arguing.

“The argument escalated into a fight, which led to the suspect hitting the deceased on the head with a hoe,” Hauli said.

Phiri died upon arrival at the Kasungu District Hospital.
