BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Out-of-state license plates fill the highways this time of year as tourists flock to the foliage, but this fall, Vermont could be seeing fewer friends from up north.

State data shows Vermont-Canada border crossings are down by nearly 30% this year, and their credit card spending is down 47%.

According to the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, Canadians make up 5% of our annual tourists, bringing in 150 million dollars.

Fall is typically the busiest, most lucrative time for Vermont businesses.

With Canadian foot traffic and spending down this year, this season might not be the showstopper many depend on.
