Amazon is preparing to close all of its fresh grocery stores in the UK. The move comes just four years after the concept was launched.
Alongside operating online delivery services, the firm also offers customers a 'physical, cashier-free' supermarket experience through its own Amazon Fresh stores that are available within the Greater London area.
Despite being first launched in the UK in 2021, all 19 stores are now set to be closed, with plans to convert five of those earmarked for closure into Whole Foods stores, a brand owned by Amazon .
The BBC reports that Amazon Fresh is said to employ 250 people and that the shopping firm has since launched a consultation process on its closure proposals.
