MERIDEN, Conn — Dozens of Connecticut families gathered Tuesday at Meriden City Hall to share their concerns and experiences with state legislators, highlighting the growing struggles families already face if federal funds are cut.

Community members and low-income families had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with lawmakers to advocate for their rights and the health benefits many rely on to survive.

“No one should have to choose whether I’m going to eat my next meal or visit the doctor,” one attendee said.

Coralys Santana, campaign manager for the Connecticut Project Action Fund, said families are already struggling to meet basic needs.

They are really afraid about those cuts that are coming from the federal government,” Santana explained. “The cost of living here is already high
