ST. LOUIS - The proposed Metro line project connecting north and south St. Louis has been canceled.
The proposed $1.1 billion project, known as the Green Line Project, will no longer happen after city leaders say the idea would likely not be approved for the millions of federal dollars needed for construction.
The proposed 5.6 mile route would have run from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency headquarters in north St. Louis to Jefferson to Chippewa Street in south St. Louis.
The proposed project was initially put on hold in April after St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer asked Bi-State Development, which runs Metro Transit, to provide more information on the project. At the time, Spencer expressed concern on how the project would meet the criteria for federal grant funds.
