LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Fayette County Public Schools is one step closer to an independent external audit into the district’s finances.

The audit committee met on Wednesday morning to provide guidance and feedback about how to proceed.

The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

The Fayette County School Board has authorized an external audit and has now tasked the audit committee with coming up with recommendations as well as helping to put out a bid and proposal for the work.

School board chair Tyler Murphy released a statement Tuesday night explaining the purpose, which includes the possibility of a ‘forensic audit,’ a more thorough examination of the finances and processes.
