DUNN, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dunn police Chief Cary Jackson is on administrative leave with pay, according to Dunn City Manager Justin Hembree.

The city has not released why Jackson was placed on leave, but said it will "follow all applicable processes outlined in State laws and City personnel policies when an employee is placed on administrative leave."

Hembree said Maj. Nicholas Simmons has been appointed as the city's acting Chief of Police.

"Acting Chief Simmons' is a proven law enforcement professional and trusted public servant. I have the utmost confidence in Nick's leadership abilities and management talents," said Hembree.

The city has not released a timeline for how long Jackson's leave will last.
