WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Leaders in Sedgwick County are expressing concerns about how the state will fund the Community Corrections Act (CCA) in 2026. The CCA plays a crucial role in reducing prison overcrowding by providing alternatives to incarceration.

Currently, Sedgwick County is projected to lose over $2 million in CCA funding next year. County leaders warn that if this occurs, it will lead to an increase in safety risks for the community.

“The first levels of cuts are a few people, but the majority of it is services,” said Sedgwick County Corrections Director Steve Stonehouse.

Those services include helping incarcerated people with rehabilitation services and keeping them off the streets.
