While the list of Pennsylvania licensed wineries now tops 400, the list of wineries in the state that spend the time and effort to maintain a vineyard is much smaller.

Even fewer use only grapes grown in their vineyards.

A handful of those estate wineries are located in Chester County, where a number of the state’s top producers are located.

One of those is 1723 Vineyards , located in Landenberg, at the southern end of the county.

Sarah and Ben Cody are fifth-generation farmers from the Midwest, who in 2014 purchased 36 acres of the historic McMaster farm in Landenberg. The farm was saved from high-density development and has been placed in the Chester County Agricultural Land Preservation program.
