A Baton Rouge man was arrested Friday for allegedly fatally shooting 19-year-old Joseph Mitchell as he walked along Eleanor Drive around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.

DeKendall Hickman, 26, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison on a count of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, possession of schedule I substance, felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated flight from an officer.

After Mitchell was killed, detectives identified a vehicle they suspected was involved in the crime. On Friday, that vehicle was located by Baton Rouge Police officers. Hickman and a second man, 19-year-old Larry Thompson, were in the car.

The car fled from police shortly before crashing, and both Hickman and Thompson were arrested.
