LIHU’E, Hawaii (Island News) – A man has died following a hit-and-run that was reported on Friday night in Hanama’ulu.

According to the Kauai Police Department (KPD), the incident occurred near 7-11 at approximately 9:15 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a man lying on the side of Kuhio Hwy.

When officers arrived, they determined that the man had been struck by a vehicle, which had left the scene.

The man, later identified as 42-year-old Alfred Lopes, was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. He was later confirmed to have died from his injuries on Sunday, Sept. 28.
