HILO, Hawaii (Island News) -- The Hawaii Police Department held a private memorial service on Tuesday for Archer, the department’s police dog who passed away after he was left in a police car.
Archer, a six-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix from Hungary, was left unattended in a police car on Sept. 4, 2025 for what the department described as an “unacceptable period of time.” The memorial service took place on Sept. 30 at the Police Memorial Wall in Hilo.
Following Archer’s death, administrative and criminal investigations were launched into the circumstances of his death and remain ongoing.
Since beginning his career with the department in 2021, Archer was a valued member of the department’s Vice Section based in West Hawaii. He was deployed 169 times and condu
