WAIKĪKĪ - District 6 patrol officers responded to a robbery at the First Hawaiian Bank Waikīkī branch on September 29, 2025, where a suspect used a a substance that appears to be pepper spray.

The suspect, described as a white male in his 40s or 50s, demanded money and fled after spraying a substance. Preliminary field tests indicate it was "oleoresin capsicum", commonly known as "pepper spray". Multiple employees experienced irritation and received medical attention.

A First Hawaiian Bank spokesperson provided Island News with the following statement:

"This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery at our Waikiki Branch. All employees and customers are safe. The branch will remain closed for the rest of the day, and First Hawaiian Bank is cooperating fully with law enforcement in their
