TOLEDO, Ohio —

New police cameras could be coming to areas of Toledo.

District 4 councilwoman Vanice Williams is asking her council colleagues to support the addition of two new cameras in her district.

One would be located at Swayne Field on Monroe Street in central Toledo. The other would be at the corner of Ontario and Walnut streets, near the Greenbelt Apartments in north Toledo. The cameras would be tied to the Toledo Police Department's network.

Williams hopes the high-definition cameras will help reduce crime in those communities.

"The technology of the cameras actually helps out a lot because it pans the whole area, and it goes pretty far as well," she said.

Williams said there are already more than three dozen of the same cameras around the city.
