Fall foliage season is here for New England and some have already noticed the season has started a bit earlier than expected.

"It’s definitely changing early, it’s definitely changing fast and there are a number of factors," said Jim Salge, foliage forecaster for Yankee Magazine.

The timeline for peak colors usually starts in northern New England at the end of September, and we see a wave of color then tracking southward through southern New England.

"Usually the greatest part of northern New England and western Massachusetts is at peak during the big three-day weekend. And I think a lot of people are going to want to move those plans up a week this year to really catch the peak colors up north," Salge said.
