ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Layali Coffee House, Rochester's first Yemeni coffee shop, received the New York State Empire Award Monday, presented by Senator Jeremy Cooney.

The Henrietta-based coffee shop, which opened earlier this year on the first day of Ramadan, has been recognized with the New York State Empire Award.

"I just want to say a big thanks to the community and also definitely the honor from the senator. We want to say a big thanks to all our customers. We appreciate every each and one of you," said Ahmed Rashed, co-owner of Layali Coffee House.

Layali Coffee House is planning to expand with a second location on Park Avenue later this year, although the exact date of opening has not been specified.
