COLUMBIA, S.C. — Imelda has officially strengthened into a hurricane, bringing stronger winds and higher risks to parts of the Atlantic. It becomes the fourth hurricane of the 2025 season.

As of early this morning , the storm was located about 180 miles north of Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas and nearly 755 miles southwest of Bermuda.

Winds have now increased to around 75 mph, with higher gusts possible, making it a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

The storm is moving slowly to the northeast at about 7 mph. This path will carry it away from the Bahamas today and put it on a track toward Bermuda by late Wednesday.

Forecasters expect Imelda to pick up speed tonight as it turns more toward the east-northeast. Some additional strengthening is also possible over the next
