HOUSTON (KIAH) – Alarmed by a string of disturbing discoveries in local bayous, dozens of Houston residents gathered Tuesday morning for an urgent community meeting on public safety, demanding answers and action from city leaders.

The meeting, hosted by City Councilmember Letitia Plummer, was held at the Good Hope Baptist Church, just off Brays Bayou, just a few miles from where the body of University of Houston student Jade McKissic was found earlier this month. The setting underscored the painful reality many in the community are now facing.

Plummer said the waterways, once for scenic beauty, are now associated with fear due to recent events.
