SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The pledge drive to keep Christ the King School open has raised over $50,000.
The effort is part of a grassroots group working to keep the school open after Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools announced they would close Christ the King at the end of its school year, citing financial reasons and low enrollment.
At the school's appeal meeting with the school board last Thursday, an donor pledged $50,000 to the school, according to Carla White, a mom of a fourth grader at Christ the King.
White said she came to the school after her son was struggling at a nearby public school.
"We didn't look at the school a block south from us, no particular reason why, mostly because we didn't know anything about Christ the King," White said.
White's son has attended the school
