AUSTELL, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - State investigators are working to determine what sparked a fire at a Cobb County church Monday night.

The fire happened at Prayer City Eagles Chapel International Ministries on Joe Jerkins Boulevard in Austell. According to the fire chief, the first responding units found flames coming from the roof at the front of the building around 9 p.m. Monday.

“They arrived to fire coming from the roof, the front of the structure,” Chief Brandon Merritt said. “They started a fire attack. They’ve been working all night. Working hard.”

Multiple fire departments responded, including Austell and Cobb County fire crews. They battled the flames for hours.
